The Nik-L-Nip name comes from the original cost of a “nickel” (5¢) and the method of opening it, by biting, or “nip” the top off. The Tootsie Roll company created these so long ago, we don’t remember a date – but they’ve been around forever. Nik-L-Nips are still as popular as they were way back when.

These are the very definition of old-fashioned candy. Nik-L-Nips are small wax bottles with flavored syrup inside. There’s no incorrect way to eat them, but the most fun way is to bite off the “cap,” slurp up the syrup, and then pop the whole thing in your mouth and chew it like bubblegum.
